Postdoctoral position in protein engineering for functional nanostructures
Biomolecular Nanotechnology Group, CIC biomaGUNE, San Sebastián (Spain).
A postdoctoral position is available in the area of computational protein engineering for functional materials and nanostructures, financed by an ERC Consolidator Grant – ProNANO.
The project focuses on the development of a modular versatile platform for the fabrication of protein-based hybrid functional nanostructures for their use in different applications including molecular electronics, optical plasmonics, bioorganic catalysis, and photoactive systems among others. It involves the computational design of protein scaffolds and their assembly properties to obtain defined nanostructures and materials. The candidate will apply bioinformatics, protein design and molecular modelling techniques in order to design novel protein scaffolds. Of particular interest is the design of novel interfaces and supramolecular assemblies and biomaterials.
The work is to be carried out at the CIC biomaGUNE, a vibrant multidisciplinary and international research institute in San Sebastian, Spain. CIC biomaGUNE has established a state of the art research program at the interface between the chemical, biological and physical sciences. It offers excellent working conditions and is well equipped with instrumentation and facilities.
Required qualifications and experience
Candidates should have a PhD degree in Biophysics, Chemistry, Physics, Bioinformatics or a related discipline. Candidates that are in the process of their PhD defense in the next 3 months will also be considered.
We are looking for a candidate with a solid background in computational biophysics and biochemistry with extensive experience in programming, in particular applied to protein design. Prior experience with classical biomolecular simulations (i.e. MC or MD) is a strong
merit. Skills in molecular biology, experimental protein design, protein production, biophysical characterization and structural biology are not required but will be a plus.
The candidate is expected to have interest in multidisciplinary work, and the capacity to work in an international environment. Excellent interpersonal skills as well as written and oral communication skills in English are required.
Conditions
The successful candidate will be hired by CIC biomaGUNE for 12 months, extendable to 36 depending on performance. Starting date at the earliest convenience.
