An Amyloid-Like Pathological Conformation of TDP-43 Is Stabilized by Hypercooperative Hydrogen Bonds. Front Mol Neurosci. 2016 Nov 17;9:125. eCollection 2016.
A special class of hyperpolarization strongly stabilizes Asn & Gln side chain H-bonds in amyloids. This could explain the capacity of the Q/N rich region of TDP-43 (a protein implicated in ALS) to form pathological aggregates.
