Upon DNA damage, cytochrome c targets the histone chaperone SET/TAF-Ib in the cell nucleus. Then, cytochrome c inhibits the nucleosome assembly activity of SET/TAF-Ib by locking its histone-binding domains. The structural analysis of the complex between cytochrome c and SET/TAF-Ib provides a valuable template to design drugs aimed at silencing the oncogenic effect of SET/TAF-Ib.
